A truly EPIC triple LP (!) compilation approaching biblical proportions and a sort of who's who of the avant-garde music scene in the US centred around the legendary West Coast liberal arts college of Mills. Reading through the line up on this one is enough to make any experimental head salivate, it's ridiclous, flaunting many of the Lovely Music alumni (Pauline Oliveros, David Behrman, Robert Ashley, Maggi Payne) and kindred spirits Terry Riley, Pandit Pran Nath, Steve Reich and MORE. It never ends this one. Personal highlights include Robert Ashley's fully tripped out alien radio-drama 'Flying Saucer Dialogue', an incredible performance of Behrman's 'Interspecies Smalltalk' (featuring Takahisa Kousugi's wilting violin), Maggi Payne's face-melting exercise in electronics with its spiritual redemption at the end, Morton Subotnick's jittery, baroque dance on the Yamaha TX7 AND the frenzied, rolling drum piece by Anthony Gnazzo. There's SO much to digest here, with each piece then leading off into the world of each of these paradigm defining artists. An avant-garde selection box !
