Horn Of Plenty shepherd Valentina Magaletti (Tomega / Raime ++) and Marlene Ribeiro’s (Good / Negra Branca) previously short-run cassette release Due Matte onto its most deserving vinyl format.The outcome from a series of recordings captured during the Hysteria residency at Sonoscopia in Porto in 2019, Due matte is a ritualistic multi-instrumental assemblage of (deep breath) bass drum, snare, gong, horns, strings, oil drum lid, chalumeau, waterphone, kalimba, noise boxes, wah tubes, bowed ceramics, handmade instruments, various electronics, vibraphone, piano, washing machine, and objects collected from the streets of Porto.The result is a free-form, loose-limbed but tight collaged arrangement that at times feels like Masik Janos jamming out with Bailey’s Company free-improv unit, shifting between dub-drenched death-march bass drum to fragmented textural clashes, be equally capable of dissolving any tension by slipping into calmer, more introspective passages.The ultimate sound-trip and one of the best of the year, coming highly RIYL Anne Gillis, Alvin Curran / MEV, Taj Mahal Travellers and other associated sonic psychonauts..(Mint / new)
