Label: Fylkingen Records – FYLP 1022 Format: Vinyl, LP Country: Sweden Released: 1978 Genre: Electronic, Non-Music Style: Musique Concrète, Sound Poetry, Experimental
Early release on the long-running Swedish multidisciplinary label Fylkingen Records with the 1978 solo debut LP 'Text-Sound Compositions' from respected electro-acoustic musician Sten Hanson. Along with fellow Swedish avant-garde royalty Lars-Gunnar Bodin, Åke Hodell and Bengt Emil Johnson, Hanson pioneered the introduction of experimental poetry / spoken word within the field of Musique Concrète at the Elektronmusikstudion in Stockholm. This one collects five of his pieces that are typical of his text-sound compositional approach, centred around heavy tape-manipulation and exploration of linguistics to 'fill the area of expression between poetry and music'. Focusing on the almost infinite complexities of the human voice, Hanson manages to reconstitute his recordings back into a lucid dream of distant voices and a varied sonic tapestry, altered from its context and origin. For want of a much better word.. it's TRIPPY and definitely of interest to anyone into similar vocal psychonauts a'la Ghedalia Tazartes, Meredith Monk and Marc Moulin on that Noises comp. (VG+/VG+).
