Ah so happy to be able to stick this one up - Mississippi Records edition of the 1968 debut LP from immortalised Hindustani classical singer Pandit Pran Nath. A true master in the millennia-old Kirana Gharana singing style originating in the foothills of the Himalaya's - North India, Pran Nath dedicated every inch of his life to music, living an ascetic life (living alone in a cave for five years) to perfect the eye-wateringly complex vocal techniques his is revered for today, which through his meeting and guruship with the American avant-garde, such as La Monte Young and Terry Riley essentially shifted the musical style axis of the time in favour of a more Eastern style. The slowww, meditative blend of the tambura drone, tabla and meandering vocals make for one of the most arresting listening experiences, especially Pran Nath's incredible rendition of the classic 'Raga Bhoopali' - a timeless piece entrenched in a sense of longing and melancholic beauty. Ageless music. (VInyl & Sleeve NM).
