Destructively beautiful 'expanded' edition of the modern minimalist masterpiece from Canadian composer Kara-Lis Coverdale originally dropped back in 2017 as a single sider. For anyone who somehow managed to miss the first time round, 'Grafts' is a continuous 22 minute piece roughly split into three scenes, a deluge of intricately processed electronic and organic elements that coalesce into a deeply contemplative, serene and breathtakingly beautiful moment of soft melodic bliss. The newly expanded B-side takes this thread further. A equally arresting gentle cascade of fluttering piano keys suspended in air that blurs the boundaries between Coverdale's academic grounding in composition, piano virtuoso and ear for moments of genuine intimacy within her music.Reference points sorta collapse in on themselves here, but the romantic simplicity of Eric Satie or Charlemagne Palestine’s timeless piano works on ‘Four Manifestations On Six Elements’ spring to mind.But yeah, rendered speechless by this one again some three years later and if this is all new to you, holy shit..prepare yourself.(Mint / New).
