It’s easy to think that a label is just a label - just a group of people coming together to spend a bank loan by putting their mates music out. But possibly Tax Free is something else, something more conceptual. Maybe I’m reading too much into this? It has been known.
But, is the whole Tax Free catalogue a particular take on the capitalist surrealism we are all immersed in? Is it a representation of the unlikely head-music possibilities generated by those utopian digital futures that are constantly generated and abandoned by the market? Can it be possible that we ever paid for ringtones? All of these questions and more might be answered by this 7” mini LP from Jurgen Ratan. Twinkling soft synths wash back and forth, while micro-loops of 32 bit zen-garden percussion and the ghosts of Atari ST street soul demos stir in the ether. Maybe all your underground music problems can be solved with this one simple trick?
