Shaka has been our entry point and all-pervading reference point for pretty much all late 80’s and 90’s dub.His first series of self-produced and released LPs ‘Commandments Of Dub’ continues to reign supreme.Throughout all these 10 instrumental pieces, with the volume cranked higher than normal, the pressure in the room really starts to swell.Air moves around - the tight rhythm section working in telepathic unison with hovering ear-worm basslines.It’s all soaked heavy in the ubiquitous holy trinity of reverb, echo and delay.Time is distorted.There’s isolated guitar riffs and squiggles of 80s electronics, but what’s almost most important is what isn’t there - the SPACE.Shaka’s stripped back production leaves ample room for each element to breath, creating that unique and timeless atmosphere that you can bask in for days on end.Too good.(NM/NM - top collectors copy).
