Brave, free-wheeling early private release from boundary-pushing German unit H.N.A.S released in 1986 in scarce quantities, positioning themselves at the forefront of European musical experimentation, rooted in absurdism and informed by the roots of avant-rock. One of the most interesting and similarly most difficult to grasp groups operating on the post-industrial axis of the late 80s, their microcosmic sound-world is chaotic, shape-shifting and anarchic, taking influence from the elements of sound collage and dadaism and with an obvious dotted line to the surrealist works of NWW. Although Küttel Im Frost feels like a vital land bridge between the noisier works of Faust and later more electronically focused material from Coil - it's bizarre, cut-up and jumbled assemblage as impenetrable and inviting as any. Definitely a tough nut to crack, although a vital piece of the jigsaw that stretches back as far as the looser free-jazz forays of Anima to present day Volksmusik of Brannten Schnüre. FEARLESS.
