Fully-tripped out electro-acoustic onslaught from French GRM composer Guy Reibel with expansively titled '79 LP 'Variations En Étoile / Deux Études Aux Modulations / Suite Pour Edgar Poe'. Taking less of the limelight that his fellow colleges at the pioneering Groupe de Recherches Musicales (Schaeffer, Bayle, Parmegiani), Reibel's work is no less developed, here presenting a DEEP collage of tape manipulation and sonic wizardry infused with (what sounds like) Tibetan bells, bellowing drums and other unidentifiable percussion, creating this all-encompassing, hallucinogenic audio-environment that reveals more on each listen. On the other-side, the artist pays homage to the late Edgar Allen Poe with a batch of poems (I assume? Can't speak French), skillfully intwined and enriched with his sparse musique concrete. Beautiful fold-out sleeve in that INR-GRM style with booklet (in French of course!) with pics and the likes. Hugely under-rated LP. (Vinyl NM / Sleeve VG+ ((some markings on label ex-radio // ask for pics if required)).
