Had enough of the DJ Sprinkles posts yet??Good, because Sloppy 42nds is undoubtably one of the best!Self-released via her holy Comatonse imprint in 1998, the EP laments the loss of the NYC mid-town drag scene with the full titled ‘A Tribute to the 42nd Street Transsexual Clubs Destroyed by Walt Disney's Buyout of Times Square’.Thaemlitz got a job as a resident DJ at legendary trans-club Sally’s II playing the same melancholic brand of deep house she’s known for today after submitting a tape to the club’s owner Jimmy, eventually going on to be award the coveted ‘Best DJ’ award in 1991 then finally sacked for not playing bullshit major label vocal house. This EP is a homage to those styles and sows the seed that would eventually lead to the faultless ‘Midtown 120 Blues’.A-side offers two variations of the title cut, it’s business as usual for Sprinkles fans.. deep, probing baselines, delayed-riddled muffled synth parts and huge clanging piano hits, whilst the ‘Terre’s Neu Wuss Fusion’ mix on the flip drifts off into chill-out room zones with the meandering flute motif and soft, rolling drum breaks.. BIG favourite, if it wasn’t already obvious.. (NM/NM)
