A true cult classic on Shandar - French cross-cultural alchemy between beat-poet Dashielle Hedayat and an early iteration of pioneering psych / space rock outfit Gong.Apparently, as the story goes Hedayat spent time bumming around the hippy trail bolstering his beat credentials whilst making friends with Gysin and more notably William Burroughs (who also makes a cameo here), then latching himself onto Gong to bring his artistic vision into reality. The hallucinogenic-referencing A-side ‘Eh, Mushroom, Will You Mush My Room’ is a tryptic that shifts from the lively, more riotous and expressive moods on ‘Chrysler’ to a dreamier, more kaleidoscopic psych-folk piece ‘Long Song for Zelba’, beautifully interspersed by more abstracted recordings of water and Dashiell’s impulsive vocal riffing. The B-side is another beast altogether, blasting off into the stratosphere with an EPIC 20 minute space orgy with glistening, psychedelic guitar work from Daevid Allen and various undulations between whimsical hippy musings and more insistent, driving, sledge-hammer guitar riffs.A total mind-melter..(NM/VG+)
