Second deep dive by Unseen Worlds into the vaults of LA composer Carl Stone, here presenting four archival pieces that bridge the gap between academic experimentalism and emotional engagement.  There are multiple personalities at play here - 'Woo Lae Oak' sounds like Tibor Szemzo's icy flute flutters freeze framed and time-stretched beyond recognition, whilst the playful digital marimbas could easily be mistaken for a long lost Rimarimba piece.  Flipside, 'Mae Yao' sounds like Oval reworking a Gamelan ensemble, it's totally hypnotic - shifting and gradually degrading to leave shimmers of warm, metallic chords and wind-like eastern melodies.  Equally beautiful is the more contemplative 'Banteay Srey', recalling Harold Budd's most mellow moments, although despite the obvious comparisons to many of the bests within his field, Stone's work comes off as entirely original and easily as relevant as his contemporaries.  Crazy that this stuff is only just seeing the light now.  Incredible comp..  (NM/NM - open in shrink)
