A quick hit from one of our favourite fledgling labels - Odda Recordings - with a fresh sampler of material from Yorkshire-based composer / producer Kirk Barley.
The four tracks act as a taste of things to come, with a full release planned on Odda soonish, fitting perfectly with the label’s blooming aesthetic. It merges the worlds of organic and inorganic, crystalline spider-web synthetic melodies form a polyrhythmic mesh, akin to Anthony Manning’s pointillistic arrangements for Irdial discs or that sainted Mimi's Utilities EP. Softly psychedelic like a nibble on some Peak District liberty caps, there’s a playfulness and otherworldly nature to each compositions, which are lifted by rising flute notes on Dudon. Lastly, Evier nods to the East with bubbling undercurrents and gamelan attuned wind chimes, recalling Ricardo Sinigaglia’s seminal early ambient pieces. Great new music from the North - not got many!
