Fresh muck from Cologne’s whizkid Montel Palmer via the excellent Amsterdam outpost South Of The North.
Drifting in even groggier and skunk-hued than normal, Palmer lets the dusty drum machine splutter amidst woozy synth improv and dubbed-to-death vocals. Maybe it’s some rare summer nostalgia, but it got us thinking of that Reson 12” on Sex Tags or the TASE stuff, which is never a bad thing. B-side ‘Gammy Eyes’ lands more skewed, stoned and lopsided than the flip. Snail-pace, can’t-quite-be-arsed drum machine plod, flickering watered-down guitar licks and vocals drifting in somewhere. Montel Palmer jump out of the plane with only a HVW8 parachute for company and land squarely on Chlodwig roundabout. Nod to Roy Ayers, nod to secret ingredients, nod to all the auntys and uncles who know where to go when the sun goes down...and then comes back up again…
