BEST EVER! (NM)
Pretty difficult to know where to start with this one.. surely one of THE greatest pieces of electronic music to have graced planet earth, Gottsching's '84 masterpiece E2-E4 sent cataclysmic shockwaves through the perceived notion of 'Krautrock' and lefts its chuggy, proto-techno finger prints smeared over much of electronic music that emerged from Detroit and Chicago shortly after. It's pretty much perfection and this little write up is completely insignificant and futile in trying to communicate just how much this one well and truly reconfigured my entire being when first experienced. Doesn't everyone remember when / where they were when they *first* heard E2-E4?? Right off from the chess-referencing cover and track titles (ANOTHER box ticker), Gottsching's slowly pulsating, modulating chords set off on their merry way through 59.39 seconds of blissful, sun-kissed balearic drift resulting in a complete serotonin deluge when *that* guitar solo comes in. Yeah yeah, some may argue it's dated or whatever but they're wrong, it's pure timeless, unadulterated trance-inducing euphoria, sampled to death by Sueno Latino, Derrick May, Carl Craig and more, rinsed by Mancuso and everyone else that matters, the list goes on. Everyone needs a copy end of! (NM/NM - 90's JP / FR press)
