Label: ANA (4) – ANA009 Format: CD Country: UK Released: 07 Aug 2020 Genre: Electronic Style: Dub, Experimental
The yung ANA sleeper cell mobilises back into action with new label recruit Bearer - a producer predictably with almost zero digital footprint online bar a few soundcloud nuggets.Spread over 12 tracks, this humble micro-run CDr taps into a strong vein of clandestine dub-techno abstraction - a hunkered down, provincial bedroom transmission that strengthens the case for this under-appreciated, no-barrier-to-entry format. The first few opening salvos set a murky, haze-heavy mood, one so well fitting with the rest of the now-firm ANA aesthetic that its hard to believe this isn’t one of the label’s regular foot-soldiers operating in disguise, before settling into lost-at-sea minimal electronics on ‘Sur’, recalling the patient, pitter-patter rhythms of early dayz Mika & Ilpo but drifting towards dreamier pastures more akin to Glasgow’s Pub than the ridged, hardline minimalism of the Finish duo.‘Blu’ follows on with a distant Rhythm & Sound styled trudge, conjuring losing track of time in the studio and heavy eye-lid droop, whilst ‘Sion’ skims off fractured, dub-damaged snare fragments over a gauzy, blurred-out pad that feels like that mad Steffi Grafs Innere Ruhe 12” being obliterated and distilled down by the Space Afrika lads. And it goes on, and on, and on.Sending this right to the top of the pile with the mass of mind-blowing releases dropped during the 2020 clusterfuck thus far.DO THEY EVEN KNOW THOUGH??Highest recommends ever.. WITH DL CODE! (Mint / New).
