The need to ditch the everyday is strong. Taking a break from all your worries sure would help a lot. Slipping out of your situation in order to drift is imperative. Sometimes a package deal to Mallorca is enough. But, for the enlightened few, stronger technology is necessary. Here is the perfect prescription: deep plaintive repeating string figures that roll out forever across two sides of a chrome tape. As they build, peak and crash the notes start to unzip, the guitar sounds like bells, like radio interference, like swallows in the eaves. Where ever you were, you’re not there anymore. If you want to put this in context, the lineage is easy to plot: Basho, Fahey, Manuel Göttsching, Popol Vuh, Pierre Jean Croset etc etc. And, anyone who is concentrating will know that Megabasse is the solo alias of guitarist Pierre Bujeau who’s connected to the great French groups Tanz Mein Herz and Omertà. But filling this away in your mental workbook of guitar haze isn’t the point. This is a ticket to the heart of the zone and it only goes one way..
