Enveloping sound-assemblage from Time Is Away - the first in a three part series drawing influence from landscapes whilst in residence at La Becque on Lake Geneva, Switzerland.
‘The day was as bright as it had been the first time, and when I had reached the top, utterly exhausted, there below me was the country around Lake Geneva once again, seemingly completely unchanged, and with no trace of movement but for the one or two tiny boats that left their white wakes on the deep blue water as they proceeded, unbelievably slowly, and the trains that went to and fro at intervals on the far bank.’
Launching the triptych with a meditation on mountains, Jack & Elaine weave a tapestry of original found-sound, augmented samples, field-recordings and traditional song into a collage that blurs the boundaries between DJ mix and new music. Notably slowwwer, more stretched-out and less defined than recent outings of late, Mountains feels like the duo decelerating and settling into temporary residence in nature. It’s delicately arranged and layered, where each element feels throughly considered - the characteristic polyglot vocals of undetermined origin, gently knotted acoustic strings and the occasional soft clonk of alpine cattle transporting us away to higher altitudes.
