Life-affirming Psych / Blues cattle prod from the late guitarist Yuzo Iwata - a respected figure of the Tokyo live house scene who did time in Tori Kudo’s rotating Maher Shalal Hash Baz ensemble and cut a somewhat mythical solo LP on the legendary ORG records in 1999.  Fast forward to 2018 and Yuzo is living in Philadelphia and finds himself on Siltbreeze with Daylight Moon set to explore the full spectrum of possibilities with his trusty guitar.  ‘Border’ is a chugging, low-slung maelstrom of scathing feedback and scorched bluez with tempered, scythe-like squeel that smoulders for a good 9 minutes whilst ‘Gigolo’ is more spritely, grooving with a warm-breeze pomp that marks the most upbeat moment on the record.  But we’re not here for that - ‘Drone Beatle’ flips the mood and rolls out blankets of searing, eye-watering twang that seems to levitate in the air, whereas ‘Up Upon A Dragon Fly’ leaves out the ear-drum lacerations for a more dewy-eyed moment of strung-out, slide-guitar sea-side nostalgia.   Tragically Yuzo was diagnosed with cancer during the recording and died shortly after the release, which adds a deeper, elegiac context to Daylight Moon - far too sad, but he’s left behind a monumental LP here that'll burn eternally.  God tier, no question.  (Mint / New - 2023 RP)
