Mesmerising Celtic folk for hammered dulcimer and Psaltery from 1930’s born US multi-instrumentalist Dorothy Carter.

Something like an international mishmash of early music, Carter (who found fame later in the 90’s with the group Mediæval Bæbes) performs renditions of early French, Scottish, Irish, Appalachian and Middle Eastern folk in her own personal otherworldly fashion.  There’s flavours of Michael O’Shea’s hypnotic dervishes for Mo chara, the eastern-tinged ascension of laraaji, or the proggier / pagan touches of Maria Monti, Kay Hoffman or even Comus.  Carter plays the hammered dulcimer with enthralling dexterity, rapid fire overtones fluttering like a bees wing whilst her unique voice (which is employed sparingly) lifts each piece into the mystic zone.  Heavy US private press sleeve, privately released.  (NM/VG+)
