Brutal display of earth-shattering early industrial nuisance on this '81 LP from Aussie outfit S.P.K - 'Information Overload Unit'.  With the overwhelming power to reduce you to a fetal, quivering mess, S.P.K are surely are their most menacing, oppressive and all-out ear-splitting in their early stages - a far-cry from the later 4th world ambient endeavours of 'Zamia Lehmanni' or the swing 'n a miss major label crud on 'Machine Age Voodoo' (bar 'Metal Dance' which is.. okay).  But yeah, back to this one.. closer in style to the deranged power electronic assaults of Maurizio Bianchi, Consumer Electronics or Whitehouse, with jaw-clenchingly painful mid-range barrages of THICK distortion, visceral tape hiss and sludgy, pissed rhythmic pulses that sorta hold it all together.  Breakin' up the PAIN though, this one comes into its own with the pieces dealing in distant captured voices set deep within a dense fog of spluttering mechanics, with disassociated interviews discussing some pretty grizzly medical procedures or the tense German radio-chatter giving the feeling of secretly ear-wigging into some Stasi war room.  To be honest, It's outright depraved in parts, although surely I can't be the only one bored with NICE music.  Landmark release on the darker side of things.  (Vinyl NM // Sleeve VG++... NO booklet (hence price))..
