The infamous Kuemmerling Trio is Roth, German publisher / concrete poet Hansjörg Mayer and American fluxus artist Emmett Williams.  It’s a piss up record.  Conceptually solid, the trio sit around draining many tiny bottles of Schnapps (Kümmerlinge), whilst telling jokes, blowing into the bottles to make childish flute noise, farting, tinkering on the piano and generally just enjoying themselves in the name of ART.  What’s the point of this?  No idea, but we like it.  It’s occasionally hilarious, especially when Williams asks for a match to ignite a fart.  Anyone familiar with Roth’s sonic ouvert would know not to expect any life-changing musical encounter, but as a historical document it’s at least interesting to hear three artists enjoying themselves and surely an influence for many pranksters in their wake (at the very least Lambkin’s Live At The Batcave).  Visually one of the best records we’ve ever seen. Inessential. (NM/NM)
