DJ Sundae’s Idle Press revisits the brutally short-run self-released cassette put out by London-based duo and treasured NTS residents Time Is Away (Jack Rollo & Elaine Tierney) with this wider reaching mix-CD drop, with new artwork.  Originally commissioned as part of an exhibition for Black Tower Projects back just before the OG lockdown of 2020, Fable of the Bees takes its name from the social theory text of the same name from Anglo-Dutch philosopher Bernard Mandeville, described by the gallery as ‘a provocative celebration of the public benefits of private interests’.  Centred on London, the mix provides a back drop for the modern urban environment and the intertwined dialogues that exist within it, weaving an undulating cord between the diverse communities, architecture and stakeholders with a drifting, waking-dream collage of folk, electronica, found sound and opaque textures.  As with their regular NTS shows or the recent (incredible!!) Ballads mixtape, the duo’s ability to construct new worlds and narratives through musical excavation and assembly is second to none - here the mix (now stripped back to purely instrumental form) feels like the perfect musical accompaniment for today’s cityscapes and explorations of future / past axis. The best mix you’ll hear this year, no question. High praise the mix CD format too… (Mint / New)
