Just 100 copies in existence of this ripper from Lyster's local YOUTH label, presented by Grimescapes - a new project from Chino Balance & Ryun Ehlke who also act as Iceman Junglist Kru. I'll be honest, I've never heard of them before and I've pretty much given up trying to keep on top of the artists this label is breaking - alas, Grimescapes is the most horizontal offering from the imprint thus far, a unique take on a sorta urban ambience that recalls fellow Mcr favourites Space Afrika, some of the more blown-out Hype Williams bits or equally cutting edge West Mineral / Experiences Ltd stuff. First two cuts offer deep, ethereal dreamscapes and atmospheres that conjure mood and feeling without imposing too heavy, whilst 'Spider Mix' occupies the other end of the spectrum with its tougher hammer-blow drums and distorted gurgling vocals. But it's the quiet moments that stand out, the closing 'Balance Mix' being the highlight with soft, lingering synth notes and personal monologue combining to provide an unexpected, personal moment of melancholy.
