Outta nowhere the mythical 80’s underground label Skating Pears dredge up this batch of genuinely deranged, previously unreleased recordings from Vanity label alumni R.N.A Organism, helmed by sainted producer \/ genius Karou Sato (later EP-4). The unit’s sole record debuted on Vanity in 1980 set the standard for the label’s signature sound - beyond-weird amalgamation of fractured rhythm box trips, chattering vocals, dubb’d out basslines and prickly guitar shimmers, all combined and reconstituted into a hallucinogenic mass by Sato’s visionary production skills. As the story goes, alleged these recordings were submitted to Vanity boss Yuzuru Agi but were rejected (!!) for being too extreme and experimental for the label, which given the benefit of hindsight and the label’s strung-out back catalogue, is hard to understand. But now with 40 years of history between us and the music’s origins, it seems as bizarre as ever - an anachronistic blend of no-wave \/ post-punk \/ minimal synth \/ industrial that refuses to comply to any genre tag - instead sitting at the interception of multiple musical styles that would later blossom. Like some sorta drug-fuelled downtown NYC disco ‘Pravda Dilentant’ sounds like Arthur Russel after a badly judged cocktail of uppers and downers, or even a more whack’d out version of Vito Ricci’s ‘I’m At That Party Right Now’, whilst the the more dubwie ‘Codice Sur Africa’ offers a glimpse into the embryonic leftfield sound of EP-4. A total monster and must check for anyone who tapped into that recent MLD compilation or with even the faintest interest into the fathomless underground scene of 1980s Japan...
