Future-proof, eternal classic from legendary Indian classical Pandit Pran Nath with his '71 LP simply entitled Ragas. It's not for the first time I've hopelessly blabbered on about the singular brilliance of this artist, but this release on Shandar is THE Pran Nath holy-grail, featuring his devote students La Monte Young on tanpura and duties and iconic cover calligraphy from Marian Zazeela. Pran Nath's distinctive, somewhat darker Kirana Gharana vocal style lends its self well to the deep, droning tanpura and spacious, relaxed percussion producing this heavily-narcotised, meditative state. Across each of the two ragas offered, the subtle nuances and range in Pran Nath's vocal delivery is entirely unique and complex, yet completely natural and it just FLOWS, like a stream, always different but endless. One of the finest. (Original Shandar press, Vinyl VG+++, sleeve VG ((damage to spine, but cover clean, can send pics)).
