Label: Cragale – CS-201 Format: Flexi-disc, 7", 33 ⅓ RPM Country: Japan Released: 1981 Genre: Rock Style: New Wave, Punk
One spare copy goin’ of this KILLER and still sorta not-known wave / punk flexi-disc from the mysterious P.T.A’s group released in ’81 via cult Yokohama label Cragale.Given all the attention the Vanity label has had over the past few years, it’s surprising how other areas of the (fathomless) underground scene in Japan remain untapped.Cragale is the label offshoot of the Muon livehouse, which regularly released CDrs of groups that played there, like Tori Kudo’s early Sweet Inspirations group, Luna Park Ensemble and the noiser rock improv unit Inryofuen. The standout here is the full B-side cut ‘3-K’ - eerie tumbling, galloping horses drums, dark monotonous bass, ricocheting guitar riffs and deadpan female vox that feels closely related to Phew / Aunt Sally or Mad Tea Party.Tracks on the other side are straighter but still equally spiky and raw, bringing to mind that Non Band 10” in their sense of confidence and swagger. The best flexi I know.. secret weapon!(NM/NM)
