Totally inexplicable, unprecedented cross-cultural alchemy from Australian-born with Estonian ancestory Olev Muska (also Kiri-UU), recalibrating the folk song traditions of his ex-Soviet homeland with eccentric home-studio synths and electronics. 

Rune singing but make it…. Techno?  Any label thrown at this record fails to stick.  Recognised as the first electronic folk artist in Estonian music history, Muska (born in Australia to Estonian immigrant parents who fled during WW2) began to imagine the ancient folk and rune singing tradition of his heritage through electronic equipment otherwise unavailable behind the iron curtain.  This idea properly fruited with this self-produced LP (there’s also an earlier 7” on HMV) in 1985, working something like an evolution of tradition or searching for a cultural identity.  There’s a real joy in the confusion and dislocation of it all, often a raw juxtaposition of past and present stuffed full of spasmodic rhythm-play and daringly intricate synth programming.  One of those kinda records that makes you appreciate the endless depths of people’s imagination and creativity.  (Mint / New - with insert - unplayed deadstock).
