Totally slept-on modern free-improv coming out of Latvia from Riga based musicians Kaspars Kurdeko, Rūdolfs Macats and Kaspars Vizulis with their debut (!) LP 'KlusiKlusi'.  Translated in English as 'quiet quiet' the LP, whilst split into separate parts is definitely consumed best in one sitting - it's a perfectly balanced and PATIENT exploration of synthesised elements and varied, 3D percussion, executed with such sophistication that it completely baffles how this is the trio's first recorded output.  There's echoes of François Bayle's Erosphere in there (surely the highest accolade!) in those icy attack-less, morphing bits which compliment the jangly, sporadic percussion and repeating synth motifs whereas B-side's goes in harder - an arresting thunderbolt of pure electro-acoustic assault that you definitely you probably weren't ready for judging from the cover.  But yeah, the whole thing could definitely get tangled up in itself resulting in ANOTHER batch of wanky self-indulgence but it doesn't - each element feels necessary, no, VITAL to the whole pie.  The 1 minute clips won't do it justice but highest recommend for those into the likes of Taj Mahal Travellers / Takehisa Kousugi / AMM / INCUS stuff, also that recent Thuja outing AND maybe even a bit of Martin Denny if that's not enough already??  Top record.  (Mint / New)
