Mysterious, otherworldly compositions from the cherished late Egyptian musician Hamza El Din, who draws influence from his Nubian homeland and the River Nile lifeline that runs through it with this 1982 collection on Victor. Hamza achieves maximum impact with his reduced palette of just Oud (lute), Tar (hand-drum) and his own vocals, utilising repetition and rhythmic structures to hypnotic effect. Here, his influence on the American minimalists makes a lot of sense, as well as US folk guitarist Sandy Bull who apparently studied Oud at the hands of the Egyptian master musician. Timeless!
