Label: Les Disques Du Crépuscule – TWI 187 Format: Vinyl, LP Country: Benelux Released: Feb 1984 Genre: Electronic Style: Downtempo, Synth-pop
Primo sophistio art-pop from US singer-song writer Anna Domino on her 84 release East & West - seriously how wasn't this Belgian Crepuscule stuff ripping up the charts when it came out, or maybe it was? I wasn't born in 1984. But it definitely should have been, the dreamy ethereal quality of this one adds to it's timeless demeanour. Gentle tik-tok drum machines, high strafing bass-lines and Domino's elegant yet concise vocal adding to the effortless, effortless cool. Certainly more suited to the breezy european cafe culture clientele than us lot in the UK jamming out to Footloose and Phil Collins at the same time. Whole thing's a beauty but special mentions to the off-kilter subtly eastern referencing 'Trust In Love' and sweetly charismatic cover of Aretha Franklin's 'Land Of My Dreams. (NM/NM)
