まついいっぺい & あきつゆこ - なつのぜんぶ // Aki Tsuyuko & Ippei Matsui - Natsu No Zenbu
Label: Lekoodo – none Format: CDr, Album Country: Japan Released: 2008 Genre: Electronic Style: Abstract, Ambient
Eye wateringly beautiful / brilliant privately released album from Japanese duo Ippei Matsu and Aki Tsuyuko with Natsu No Zenbu (All Of Summer). Self-released on Lekoodo in '08, This one really nails the stay at home, DIY-led experimentalism with 27 tracks ranging from twee synth doodles, minimalistic piano pieces, left-field processed voice skits, introspective shoe-gazey electronics and a whole load of other realised ideas that proves this sort of music is best incubated at home rather the studio which gives it a real sense of honesty and authenticity. Parts of this one are so intimate and private it almost feels like you're intruding on them by just listening, with the subtle hints to nature, be it through the distant pitter-patter of rain or running water adding the homeyness and sense of seclusion. In many ways, it recalls Ernest Hood's incredibly nostalgic LP 'Neighbourhoods', both in sound and theme and whilst the obvious and somewhat lazy 'mono no aware' stamp is branded on a lot of Japanese music of this sort, this one really does seem to capture the wistful appreciation of the passing time. Highly recommended. *Very limited copies* (Mint / CDr / hand-made artwork by Ippei!).
