Totally disorientating, around-the-world sound diary from home musician KiMiMi. The psychedelic sound of (un)reality.
What a trip. KiMiMi is artist active since the mid 90’s, utilising humble homemade sound-sources, electronics, tape manipulation and self-made instruments to create a rich stew of nostalgic soundscapes. Percolated over 39 years, № м а т 0p0iа 千 ε з Saha Shabdah captures everyday street scenes from the Tbilisi metro, to the bustling markets in Istanbul, Orothodox congrugations in Bucharest and angry protests at Shinjuku train station. It’s juxtapositioned against jaunty and occasionally outlandish folk music performed on KiMiMi’s range of ecclectic instruments. The collage of conflicting sound, places and textures is fully dislocating, creating a real sense of wrong-footedness that once submitted to becomes a hallucinogenic journey through someone else’s memory and experience. Hard to draw any comparisons to music as outlandish and bold as this, but imagine something like a Moniek Darge collaboration with Klimperei and you’d be a fraction closer. Bizarre yet beguiling!!! (Mint / New - with DL).
