Kashual Plastik serve us a world-beating, expertly compiled collection of crucially contemporary experimental wares from today’s artists operating very now and from their own fridge; cutting edge enough to draw blood - not just literally, the brave hand-made wire-mesh that houses this one is actually pretty sharp and has the potential to lacerate on entry, approach with caution! After managing to navigate law-suit-waiting-to-happen sleeve, the music encased within unfolds to form it’s own 80’s Sci-Fi b-movie soundtrack, from Al Chem’s searching, Tarkovskian mood-setter ’The Last Victorian’ to the heavily zonk’d, woozy kosmiche bloozy pieces that follow. 2020 Trilogy Tapes signee Waswaas contributes a typically abstract, lightheaded synth deluge on ‘Averssion’, lining up Andreas Oskar Hirsch’s tryptamine-drenched percussive jaunt on ‘Steamboat Jr’. Special mentions at this point to the dark-art of sequencing, with KP tracing the mood perfectly and stringing up a series of more rhythm-based cuts on the B-side, including the primordial, heart-of-darkness mechanics from A.N.I on the opener, a typically austere, precision-engineered rhythm-trip from TRJJ and the muted air-lock drum-flutter from nkls which has a whiff of late 80’s Muslimgauze whilst maintaining plenty of originality (rare!!). Fuck, SO much to go off here - not even gonna get into the CD, which for the lack of the prerequisite technology I can’t even listen to at the shop but there’s more than enough there to justify the entry price. Just watch ya fingers on that sleeve !!!! (Mint / New).
