Rejoice! Italian composer / pianist Roberto Cacciapaglia’s ecstatic minimalist masterpiece Sei Note In Logica finds its way back out into the world after occupying high ranking on many collector’s want lists (my own included).
Undoubtably one of the high-water marks within the rich legacy of Italian minimalism, Cacciapaglia here feels more closely associated to the American School (Glass / Reich / Riley) than his compatriots Donnini, Battiato, Cilio, Sinigaglia +++. It’s a euphoric, enraptured piece of music, split into two parts, that creates a captivating dialogue between computerised elements, acoustic instrumentation and vocal backing. The influence of Reich’s Music For 18 Musicians is right out in the open, Cacciapaglia uses repetition and restricted tonalities to create a sense of expansiveness and delirium, whilst the vivid expression of Magma feels closely akin. One of the rare records that can render even the most inattentive listen completely speechless, revealing something new each time around. Truly iconic artwork. (Mint / New)
