Uncategorisable high-concept ambient pop on the mysterious Fondation Petya Sasser Rike label.

Here is a whole world in a jewel case. A near future world possibly. A meeting of solo Donald Fagen, John Le Carre in monsoon sweat mode and Ben Gazzara in Saint-Jack drawn by Moebius. A world-weary pan-global post-catastrophe pop music. Made out of icy synths, warm popping bass,  paranoid vocals, and rolling repetition.

The voice says “I’m so bored with earthly aesthetics”.  I’m imagining it’s the voice of a marooned, defunded and deeply confused colonial functionary. Strung-out in heaven’s high and hitting an all time low. A lost and lonely toxic male stranded. The colonist of the title.

Or maybe it’s the voice of someone more familiar. Just a nice guy trying to make pop out of difficult music: a Jim O’Rourke, or a Steve Beresford. Staying on top of things, diffidently existing one step ahead of the curve, sadder than he lets on. Either way it’s a fascinating and deeply enjoyable album full of unlikely details and strange emotions.

New year new music.. (mint / new - shops pls ask for wholesale)
