Increasingly sought-after EP from mythical Manchester (Salford really!) producer D.Ball under his much-adored Sonic Insomniac alias.  Last in a string of untouchable 12"s on New Religion, the Impermanence LP is one of the finest examples of just how strong the Manchester-Detroit connection is.  We're talking future-facing, techy machine jaunts backed by lush synth pads and jazzy undertones throughout, especially 'Multi-Dimensional', whilst 'Focus' pushes a clumpier groove with woozy, melancholic notes.  B-side, we've got another deep yet pumping machine jam on 'Emotive' and the gliding, surfing-on-air closer 'Untitled'.  In fact, just listening through these now for the first time in a while has reminded me how amazing, fresh and timeless these tracks still sound, despite being 15 years old and released at a pretty ugly time for techno (2004).  For those that know, love runs deep in these parts for D.Ball and most would agree this is some of the finest techno to ever be released from our wonderful and wet city.  PLUS insider knowledge tells me that unfortunately all of these works are wrapped up in an impenetrable bureaucratic nightmare and are fully off-limits for reissue, despite the galant efforts of many of the biggest in the biz.  Piece-o-northern-history!  (Vinyl & Sleeve VG+).
