Cruelly overlooked mid-90’s UK techno double-pack from the mysterious Vango Noir, who in fact is just a cover for the members behind the mysterious and peak eccentric label Radioactive Lamb.  It’s still a riddle to be solved, but there are multiple hands at work here, Joseph Cicero, Paul Cutler and Tyrone Reece are the names that pop up most recently, who were all involved involved in a string of idiosyncratic releases in the early to mid 90’s where you can really feel the transition from early breakbeat and hardcore to a trippier strain of ambient UK techno that’s now immortal.  The results on this 2LP are varied to say the least, ‘Idris’ goes off like a frag grenade - a moody 100bpm strut with wobble board bass and a sort jazz-funk improv in the middle, whereas ‘Solace’ flaunts an obvious Detroit influence with its soaring / weeping synth strings.  Elsewhere there are other pieces of unconventional dance floor artillery and abstracted scene setting electronics, all heavily instilled with a uniquely outsider, DIY spirit.  Must check for anyone with an interest in the peripheries of techno..
