Crown jewel in the vast canon of Hungarian experimental music from the hugely respected (especially on this site!!) Tibor Szemzo - one of the front runners of the movement from the early 80's onwards.  Snapshot From The Island - Tibor's debut solo LP, originally released on Russian ex-pat Leo Feigin's prolific, highly independent avant-jazz label Leo Records - like most of his work, was originally composed to accompany moving pictures.  Although despite the somewhat lost context of the original film, the three timeless pieces here endure, highly minimalistic in their approach with Tibor's chilling, meandering flute at the forefront.  The long-form title piece devours the A-side of the LP, a highly atmospheric journey that rises and falls in intensity, scaling the heights of chugging, bordering on industrial moments at times with that hard ricochetting rhythmic box beat, only to be plunged back down to moments of eerie calm - left alone to chase the dancing flute flutters.  On the other-side, 'Let's Go Out And Dance' is close to perfection - a tranquil arrangement of softly-lapping music box rhythm, layered flute melodies and naturalistic found sound.  Total life-changer of a record, be warned!  RARE.  (Hungaropop edition / NM / NM - ask for more pics if unsure).
