Hot on the heels of the recent ‘Mouthfeel / Serene’ EP with Sam Gendel, next drop on Josiah Steinbrick’s recently inaugurated Full Bloom imprint sees the LA based multi-instrumentalist and composer collaborate with Brin aka Colin Blanton, a sound artist working with texture-rich expressionistic percussion and computer processing.  Bliss Place emerged out of a string of home-recorded lo-fi scraps and fragments originally destined for film demos, which were then stripped of their initial intention and refracted, reconfigured and reprocessed through Brin’s digital processing software.  It’s an abstracted collage of chaos that touches on the farthest reaches of the dance-floor, grounded in amorphous rhythm dynamics and multi-textured layers whilst embracing spontaneity and unexpected sonic events.  Dub aesthetics are stretched to new realms, obliterating the source material and distilling the sound’s core components into an impulsive montage of thoughts, ideas and feelings.  It’s smudged, impressionistic approach is tricky to place, but there’s a thread back to Jake Muir’s sublime collage works on Sferic or Andrew Pekler’s recent bits for Faitiche.  There’s a sense of emotional ambiguity, neither ominous nor overly comfortable that weaves a noir, obfuscated narrative across a suite of reconstituted rhythm pieces that wander into the unknown, eventually finding itself back at a place of extreme calm and content, at Bliss Place.  Another timeless, wonderfully understated and coolly executed instalment to this this budding new label.  (Mint / New - shops pls get in touch for wholesale).
