Dusseldorf’s enfant terrible and Salon Des Amateurs resident Detlef Weinrich aka Tolouse Low Trax fires up the MPC for the first batch of new material in over 2 years.
We should start off by saying we’re huge fans of TLT. His particular brand of lopsided drunk-chic rhythm play and art-school dance music keeps the fire inside burning and the urge to sway real within our increasingly dodgy knees. It’s high-concept adult dance music with a certain determination but there’s also a weird playfulness and looseness to the whole thing that’s totally irresistible. Each of the nine individual pieces here stalk that slugged-out mid-tempo pocket, all building over interlocking syncopations, seismic fibrous baselines and crunching percussion to create a synchronised hypnotic expanse that takes over the mind and body. It really grabs you. Reeking of stale cigarette smoke and blotched in spilt pinot noir, there’s really no-one that can step to this addictive nocturnal club music - the best of it’s kind in yonks.
