Strange and eccentric synthetic compositions from quirky French musician Dominique Laurent in collaboration with French miming duo Pinok et Matho on the intriguing Unidisc label.  A little bit of digging online shows Laurent spent most of his (probably mostly undocumented) career working with sound for Children’s TV in the late 70’s / early 80’s, together with the odd Unidisc label who ‘’mostly specialized in religious, world and children music’’.  I can’t be alone in struggling to understand how a mime duo are able to contribute to a record and a lack of French will interrupt and further investigation, but the varied electronic compositions here sit well within that sweet spot where experimental music and theatre / performance art overlap.  Think about that Ernst Oosterveld Square Dance LP, bits of Vito Ricci, Roger Doyle or the Colman LP.  It’s pumped full of warm analogue tones, twinkling electronic piano and minimalistic rhythm-box patterns that set a mysterious scene, whilst brashier moments add to the sense of theatrics and peculiarity.  All weird and wonderful with excellent design to match.  With booklet!  (VG+++/VG+++)
