Slow burning long-form bucolic minimalism on Vrystaete.
More gold from Enfant Terrible sub-label Vrystaete: a label that just keeps unearthing great music by singular European musical minds. Circles Bros is Wim Lecluyse. Originally from The Netherlands but now operating out of Belgium. There are two sidelong pieces here that operate very much in the Cluster/Eno/Harmonia golden-afternoon-by-the-river zone. Guitar and organ ebb while glockenspiel jangles and a gentle throb of bass, that could almost be a far off boat engine, putters underneath. These pieces feel generous and unhurried, rolling out and drifting off. As summer ends this record seems to preserve it in amber light and the almost imperceptible buzz of insects.
But as ever with this stuff there is a sadness too. Can you ever quite get back to the feeling you lost? Is ambient music the answer to anyone’s problems? (mint / new)
