Tax Free done it again!!! Effortlessly weird bedroom recordings from label regular Gerry Franke who covers a vast amount of ground across the 10 tracks on ‘Found Myself or Just I’m Dead’. Gerry’s trusted guitar takes the lead role in various forms throughout, often joined by sparse, cyclical percussion or more tribal / polyrhythmic jaunts whilst being bathed in mystical soundscapes that give the feel of something being not quite right. There’s wonky Arabian desert blues on opener ‘Al Hamra’, followed off-kilter rhythm track ‘Balastrophe’ and then ‘Cada Dia’ whose industrious, motorik, production line drive mixed with death-scorched guitar riffs recalls Alessandro Alesandroni’s industrial themed library releases - high prise not dished out lightly. Elsewhere ‘Cabule o Galeria’ slots carefully placed bass riffs into repetitive pots ’n pans percussion, whilst the closing pair ’Sequencia’ and ‘First Minute’ edge towards a sorta Düsseldorf art-school techno / Tolouse Low Trax ish vibe with their hypnotic, slo-mo / double speed rhythm pairs and air of eccentricity.
