Immense psychotropic industrial sound collage works from Newcastle’s Zoviet France - one of the deepest records ever to be coughed up from England’s Hidden Reverse.

Working like a trip into the heart of darkness, Shout At The Ground is ZF at their most formless, it journeys through deep through the sub-conscious with a tapestry of other-worldly FX-laden samples, smothered drones and hypnotic fragments of rhythm. Ethnographic recordings are spliced, reconfigured and rearranged, collaged against billowing gusts of Northumbrian wind but the sound remains organic, like an autumn ayahuasca ritual set deep in the North Pennines. Different to some of the more percussive releases in their vast catalogue, Shouting At The Ground remains a masterclass in atmospherics and musical scene setting, beautifully threaded together with a typically British feeling of wilting melancholy that’s especially apparently on the 20 minute epic Shamany Enfluence. Must check for anyone. (NM/NM - UK OG)
